The route
Onto the A406 and A12 to the M25 and the Channel, then the full drive down through France, across Spain, and over the western border into Portugal. Most loads head for the Algarve in the south; others to Lisbon & the Setúbal coast or up to Porto & the north and the Silver Coast. It’s the longest single road route of the four, planned around driver hours and the two national borders it crosses.
Customs and paperwork
The post-Brexit set applies here too: an inventory, a transit declaration for the goods crossing the EU, and the transfer-of-residence route for a permanent move where the conditions are met. Portugal often asks for a certificado de bagagem (a baggage certificate) as part of bringing household goods in, usually tied to the NIF and your consular or residency steps.
